Harvesting Potatoes Orla and Anya. Slug Damage a Problem

Potato Harvesting

Apart from a few tomatoes, today was spent harvesting the potatoes.

The last half row of the first early Orla had a good yield but the recent rain has spurred the slugs into a feeding frenzy – hardly any are untouched.

The Anya have been, in contrast, brilliant. A high yield and very little slug damage. This cross between Pink Fir Apple and Desiree may look strange and knobbly but it tastes really good. With high yield and slug resistance, one to grow again.

I guestimate we have something like 30KG from two 15 foot rows of Anya.

Looking around, the sweetcorn are doing well as are the marrows, squashes and courgettes. The Roma tomatoes have many small fruits developing and the beans are doing fine. I expect to try, weather allowing, to harvest the rest of the peas this week and maybe the late broad beans. Some cauliflowers need to come home as do some cabbages.
