Harvesting and How to Store Potatoes

Yet more harvesting

Finished off the peas – Dorian have lovely pods but they are tricky to work out if they are ready. Nice tasting pea, though.

Took up the cauliflowers, they’re starting to go over so better in the freezer than the caterpillars.

A few runners – they’re slow coming this year and some climbing French beans. Couple of cucumbers and finally..
wait for it…
one strawberry

Much weeding on plot 5 – the carrots there are doing well, some are quite large to say the least. Cleared around the leeks and bean teepees. Amazing how the weeds leap out of the ground when a bit of rain comes.

Back at the ranch, sorting of potatoes into those that will store a while and those to use now as the slugs have started eating them. We store them in hessian sacks, which let them breathe but keep out the light that turns them green.

Then blanching of the cauliflowers etc – the freezer is filling back up.
