Ripening Tomatoes and Spanish Rotavators

Return from Spain

We had a wonderful week away in Spain, staying in an old white house in the traditional Andalucian village of Torrox, which is nestled in the mountains a few miles from the sea.

The weather was wonderful, not too hot, around high twenties, in the day falling to the low twenties at night. Just a few clouds in the blue sky. We did a little travelling around spending an interesting day in Gibraltar, the Barbary Apes are marvellous.

We also spent a day in Almunecar, morning at the market followed by a long lunch in a traditional bar for just 8 euros including wine!

I’m afraid my Spanish isn’t up to a conversation but I think the Spanish chap gathered I was admiring his rotovator and tomatoes. He was, I think, complaining about the lack of rain. I wasn’t!

Back to the plot

Amazing how things have changed in just a week. The weeds are doing well, unfortunately.

The tomatoes have finished – between blight and slugs most were gone. I managed to get about 5lbs of ripe or nearly ripe tomatoes. The fleece went back into the shed and I did a bit of weeding on plot 5.

The last courgette on plot 5 was a bit large, so a small marrow.

A few turnips and carrots were added to the days harvest and then back to the ranch. It’s going dark early now, which doesn’t favour me as I’m one of those people that funtions better later rather than in the morning.
