Harvesting, Blanching and Freezing Runner and French Beans

A weekend of harvesting.

On Saturday we gathered a carrier bag of French beans, one of broad beans, some runner beans and yet more courgettes.

Yet more blanching and freezing as well as a nice fresh meal.

Sunday was spent harvesting the rest of the early potatoes. There were two varieties left – Charlotte and International Kidney. Both have good top growth but the yield was poor. Fairly scabbed and with quite a few slug holes.

Next year I think I’ll throttle back on early potatoes – we have more than enough to see us through to the maincrop. Probaly until next year! Maybe just Anya and Arran Pilot.

The potato haulm went onto the compost heap intermixed with the last few comfrey plants cut, It’s an amazing activator. The heap had really gone down and I’m sure it will be ready for turning in a few weeks.

Finally I cut the green manure mustard down on plot 29 – that patch needs digging over now,
