Dug Out the Parsnips and the Merry Tiller in Action

Fine weather today, for a change, so off to the plot.

The soil was pretty wet still on plot 5, which is always more wet than plot 29. Yesterday’s downpour hardly helped, of course.

First job was to dig out the last of the parsnips – these had burst back into life with the new spring and I was surprised that they looked OK.

Anyway, discarded the weirdly shaped ones that looked like alien monsters and the ones obviously hit by canker. Still, a carrier bag of parsnips to go home.

Dug over that patch then added the discards to the new compost heap.

Next, Major Tiller (I’ve named him) was brought into action. The potato bed on 5 was given a good going over and then bed 3 where the parsnips had been.

Pretty hard going this first time but once the soil is broken down Major is much easier to control.

The comfrey is leaping away, must take the camera down.
