Wet Weather – Allotment Paddy Field

Rain and Plague

Apart from a quick stroll down to the plot last Saturday, my allotment has seen precious little of me for over a week!

I don’t know if it was a cold or flu but it really hit hard, seemed to be living on Lemsip, Yesterday the cold was feeling quite a bit better so my stomach decided it was his turn to play up. I gave up at lunchtime and went to bed. What”s really annoying is that the rain stopped and I missed the day.

Today I took a walk down to the plot with my camera and the kitchen compost bin. We don?t waste anything that can be recycled, if it can, it goes into the heap.

I didn?t miss much yesterday judging by the state of the site. It looks like the paddy fields of late winter rather than early summer. All this talk of drought in the media and we need to consider building an ark.

The comfrey is well overdue for cutting and the weeds need hoeing but they will have to wait for some better health and weather.

Came back home and cut the lawn, which was fun. It is really far too wet to cut but the grass was getting up to six inches high. Normally I need to empty the collector at the end but it was four times today. That gives you an idea of how bad it was.

By the time I?d finished the lawn I felt pretty rough again. I?m not saying it is age, but it seems to take longer to get over things than it did when I was in my twenties.
