Harvesting Runner Beans and Cucumbers

Summer Flu

I spent most of Monday in bed and Tuesday feeling like a zombie so today finally managed to take advantage of the nice weather and get a couple of hours on the plot.

Beans, beans and beans.

Didn’t feel up to anything strenuous so just gentle picking of runners, French and broad beans. Result was carrier bag of French and runners and a meal’s worth of broad beans.

Cucumbers

I have 4 cucumber plants dotted around the plots and one in the greenhouse at home. So far only one plant is producing – a Burpless Tasty Green. This cultivar has a wonderful flavour, not full of burp and a prickly skin. Unfortunately they do not store well but as I picked 5 cucumbers in one go there is no shortage.

I must start a notepage for next year – you learn so many little lessons as you go along and it is too easy to forget in the rush of the new season.
