Planting Onions and Brassicas

Beautiful Day

There are few things worse than having to work on a day like today but I managed to sneak away early and picked up some multi-purpose compost and some pelleted chicken manure to pamper the plants even more.

Down to the plot.

Planting Onions

The last of the onions are now in the ground, these are the Bedfordshire Champions. In terms of germination, they’ve not been brilliant and they seem pretty patchy in terms of growth. Some are doing very well and some are pretty poor. It will be interesting to see how all these turn out.

Brassicas

The brassicas were looking pretty thirsty when I arrived so they all got a good drink. I then planted some more cabbages, total planted out so far:

  • 6 Red Fuego

  • 3 Marner Lagerrot

  • 4 Greyhound

All these were sown back in January and are looking really good. The spares were trundled up to Larry”s polytunnel, since I owe him one for all the help with the greenhouse. I ended up with 16 spares! Well, I think 17 cabbages (still have 4 Christmas Drumhead to plant) is plenty for two people.

Next chance on the plot I?ll be planting the cauliflowers. Tomorrow I have the joy of Birmingham in 25 degrees and me in a suit. Yuck
