A beautiful day but what to do? Big Bertha is not playing and lots of those horrible clay clods to break up?
Unusually our ‘Buy & Sell’ free paper arrives early and there in the gardening section is a Merry Tiller for £85.00.
Off for a 20 minute drive to Audlem followed by a race to Pipe Gate where she lives. Thence back to the plot, proud owner of a Wolsey Major Merry Tiller.
4 horse power, adjustable handles, both up and down and can be angled. Extended tines (just like that chopper with extended front forks in Easy Rider I dreamt of as a teenager).
Bit of a game to get her going but with the help of the admiring crowd we eventually heard the throaty roar of the mighty engine.
Up and down beds 1 & 2 on plot 5, three times. Then onto plot 29 where bed 2 got the treatment.
Realising I was about to collapse after 3 hours back home where a small lager was called for. Later the hot bath treatment. Wrestling those horses is more tiring than I realised.
