Treacle Tart Recipe submitted by Jan McGeachie
A traditional British Dessert. Can be served as a pudding with custard or a dollop of cream or on its own sliced with elevenses or afternoon tea as a treat.
Make in advance if you’re expecting visitors in a few days
Ingredients for Treacle Tart:
- 8oz Self raising Flour
- 4oz Butter
- Lemon Juice
- Treacle
- Breadcrumbs
- Water
Method for Treacle Tart:
- Rub the sifted flour with the chopped butter until it resembles fine breadcrumbs.
- Add water and mix to a stiff paste.
- Line a pie dish.
- Melt 2 large tablespoons treacle, breadcrumbs and lemon juice together gently in a saucepan over a low heat then pour onto the pastry.
- Bake for 20 minutes at 200°C.
