Ingredients for Chocolate Cake:
- 5oz self raising flour
- 1 oz cocoa powder
- 6 oz butter
- 3 eggs
- 6 oz caster sugar
- 1 tbs Golden Syrup
- 2 tbs Milk
Method for Chocolate Cake:
- Grease cake tin.
- Mix all ingredients together well in a bowl.
- Beat well and turn into prepared tin.
- Bake for an hour at 160°C
There’s a lot of variations on chocolate cake but this is a good quick standard. If you have the time you can make a chocolate icing either using a high-cocoa dark chocolate for a sophisticated adult cake or using milk chocolate to make a chocolate cake the children will adore.

This cake is much moister if you mix the cocoa powder with the milk to make a stiff paste before mixing into the other ingredients. Add the flour last to give an even texture.
