Allotment Vegetable Growing in September 2006
Greenhouse or Jungle? The greenhouse at home is full of plants that were supposed to be on the plot, but since the greenhouse on the plot hasn't been finished.. You can see the tomatoes on the right that are still pretty green. The outside ones get more light and ripen faster so this is helping to spread the crop. Behind are chili peppers - variety 'blow your head off!' |
Pumpkins at homeWe brought the pumpkins back home to finish off ripening as last year the local kids raided the allotment site. They're now sitting on the patio table. All the flowers in the background are Val's hard work. |
Greenhouse RaisingLarry in the foreground and Johnny in the background working on the mother of all greenhouses while I helpfully watch! By the end of the day it was ready for glazing - only been on the site for 10 months now and taken a few hours of work to get this far! |
Growing bottles?Plot 28 has been transformed by the new tenants but I'm not convinced you can grow empty wine bottles into the famed vino trees! Seriously interesting way to edge a bed, but they're empty unfortunately, |
Greenhouses Nearly FinishedAfter many days and nearly a year from getting the big greenhouse, they are almost finished. I just need to fiddle about with the door and put a few panes of glass in and they're done. Bit like a house, that won't be the end of it. Still have to furnish them to make the most of them. You can read more about my fun building a second hand greenhouse on this site |
Mustard Green ManureI followed on the early potatoes with agricultural mustard, which is coming up well now. In the background you can see the bean teepees are still going strong. Beans for breakfast, dinner and tea! |
