Pak Choi Canton White is a compact green variety that reaches a height of 20cm. It features crisp white succulent stems and wide, dark green, circular leaves. Canton White Pak Choi offers a sweet and milder taste compared to other types.

A staple in Chinese cuisine, it can enhance a variety of dishes, including soups, stir-fries, and salads. Experiment by incorporating finely sliced pak choi into noodle dishes or vegetable soups for added flavor.

Pak choi will tolerate cold and wet conditions and it is crucial not to let it dry out. Optimal growth occurs in a full or partial sun location with some shade during the summer months.

Cultivation Tips

Initiate the cultivation of Pak Choi Canton White seeds indoors at any time. Plant two seeds shallowly in 3cm biodegradable pots, maintaining moisture and room temperature. Once the plant has developed a few leaves, gained some weight, and is less susceptible to wind damage, transplant it, pot and all, into the garden.

For outdoor planting, sow two seeds at a depth of 0.5 to 1cm directly from March onwards. Thin out the weaker seedling. Ensure consistent watering, especially anticipating dry spells.

For a continuous harvest, sow seeds successively every couple of weeks. When harvesting, use a sharp knife to cut the entire head just above soil level. Unlike certain other oriental greens, this plant does not regrow.
