Long White Icicle radish, scientifically known as Raphanus sativus, is an heirloom (open-pollinated) variety dating back to 1700. It produces icy white, crisp, and juicy radishes with tapered roots measuring about 3-5 inches (7-12 cm) in length. It boasts a mildly pungent white flesh. Typically, the radish shoulders appear green above the ground, although there is a variant with purple shoulders.
This vegetable, related to the turnip and horseradish family, serves various culinary purposes. It can be enjoyed as an hors d’oeuvre, used as a garnish for salads or sandwiches, or simply consumed as a snack. When stored in the refrigerator without the leaves, it remains fresh for four to seven days.
Don’t overcrowd in the row, one seed per inch is as tight as you want to go.
