Bright Lights Chard is the most visually appealing among Swiss chards, perfect for enhancing flower borders. Harvest the delectable leaves or stems as needed for salads, garnishes, or steaming. This variety serves as a nutritious, tasty, and decorative alternative to spinach.
Cultivation Tips
Sow the Bright Lights Chard seeds thinly directly into finely prepared, moist, and warm soil at a depth of 13mm (1/2″) in rows spaced 30cm (12″) apart. Expect germination within 7-14 days. Thinning may be necessary to maintain a spacing of 23-30cm (9-12″) between plants. Optimal growth occurs in well-conditioned soil that has not been recently fertilized. Ensure adequate watering, especially during dry spells, to prevent bolting (going to seed).
The plants will produce for over a year so need a good supply of nutrients to keep them growing. A little general purpose fertiliser, such as Growmore or Blood, Fish & Bone can be applied a few weeks before sowing.
