Emerald Ice Kale offers a variety of culinary uses. Enjoy it as tender baby leaves after just 6 weeks, or let it mature to develop striking ice-white stems for a unique cut-and-come-again crop.
Once fully grown, even the stalks are tender, crisp, and sweet, making it one of the most delicious kale varieties available. Its best flavor is savored over the winter months.
Cultivation Tips
Plant kale in the spring as soon as the ground is workable, or in the autumn for a crop that will last through the winter. Sow the seeds 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep and 1 inch apart in rows spaced 18-30 inches apart. Once the seedlings emerge, thin them to 8-12 inches apart. Kale germinates best in soil with cool to warm temperatures and even moisture.
Harvest kale by clipping individual leaves as needed. This hardy vegetable actually improves in quality after a frost.
