With an onion flavoured foliage they are useful in salads, soups and other culinary concoctions.
Sow from March onwards. They are cold-hardy, disease resistant, and grow well in containers.
Chives can be sown direct outdoors in Spring.
If sown in Autumn or Winter sow into plug trays and cover the seed lightly – propagate at around 18°C. The seedlings should begin to emerge after 7 to 10 days.
