Sweet Almond Trees

If you are going to plant a tree or bush, then it is going to be there for many years. It's well worth spending some time looking at the different varieties and going for one that will be productive and providing you with a good crop in years to come.

Time spent to prepare the ground properly will repay you many times over. Don't forget to stake the tree for the first few years and protect against rabbits.

Almond Robijn

Robijn is a sweet Almond produced on a very ornamental tree bearing showy, light pink blossom in spring which may need protecting from frost. Grafted on a peach seedling rootstock so it is advised not to plant near peaches as hybridisation may occur resulting in bitter nuts. Very resistant to peach leaf curl. Self fertile.

Sweet Almond Sultane

A self-fertile almond which is partially resistant to peach leaf curl, and very attractive both in blossom and in leaf. The large fruits, which are held in bunches, are very sweet, and the tree will start to crop just 2-3 years after planting. Mature height 3-4m (10-13').

Almond 'Garden Prince'® (patio)

A very attractive, naturally dwarf almond tree which is ideal for the patio! Boasting an abundance of pretty pink blossom in early spring, Almond 'Garden Prince'® is grafted on to dwarfing 'peach seedling' rootstock to form a small tree with good resistance to peach leaf curl. Although perfectly hardy, almond trees require a frost free winter and a warm dry summer in order to produce a crop. Sweet almonds bloom early in the year when few pollinating insects are around so flowers will need pollinating by hand for good crops. Height and spread: 1.2m (4'). Rootstock Peach Seedling.

Estimated time to cropping once planted: 2 years.
Estimated time to best yields: 3 years.
