Raspberry Canes

There are two groups of raspberries:

  • Floricanes, which  fruit on canes grown the previous season. These fruit in the Summer.
  • Primocanes which fruit on canes grown that year. These fruit in late Summer or Autumn

Most varieties bear red fruit, but some are yellow, black or purple. All are deciduous

Raspberry Plant - Glen Coe

Unique purple colour and outstanding, sweet, intense flavour. Unusual, vigorous, clump-forming habit - ideal for border or patio container. This rich-purple-coloured raspberry forms a clump of vigorous, semi-erect, spine-free stems, ensuring that just one plant will give you lots of superbly flavoured fruit from mid June to the end of August! Raised by the Scottish Crop Research Institute, it is remarkable for the intense colour of its fruits, and even more so for the exceptional flavour. It is perfect for all dessert uses and especially good for jams, preserves and sauces, as the flavour is so intense. Ideal for growing in the fruit garden, at the back of a shrub border, or in a large container on the patio. Supplied as a large plant in a 2 litre pot.

Black Raspberry Plant - Jewel

Black raspberries, Rubus occidentalis, are neither a raspberry nor blackberry, but a totally distinct species from the forests of North America. If you could take those glinting pick 'n' mix sweets of childhood and magically turn them into a real-life berry, this would be it. Jewel has unique colour like no other raspberry; almost purple-black fruits which have a special perfumed taste and blush-white canes which make it stand out from all other varieties. It is tolerant to phytophthora and fruits on last year's canes. Flowers July-August. Height 150-200cm; spread 101-150cm. Supplied in a 2 litre pot.

Raspberry Plants - Octavia

This reliable raspberry fruits in the gap between the summer and autumn fruiting varieties, producing a bountiful harvest of large, firm, uniform fruit from mid July to early August. The berries have good flavour and few seeds, and keep relatively well. Plants boast excellent winter hardiness.

Raspberry Bare Root Plants - Autumn Collection

This late season collection contains 15 bare root plants (5 of each variety):

Autumn Treasure - Self-supporting and spine-free! A first-class primocane variety bred at East Malling. The large, mouth-watering berries should be ready to harvest from late August/early September, and the canes are erect, self supporting and spine-free for easy picking.

Joan J - Produces an abundance of large, bright, juicy berries, with a truly delicious flavour. Plus it comes out of the freezer tasting as sweet and delicious as the day it was picked. As a 'primocane' variety, it fruits on newly produced canes - harvest the first berries from late July/early August, and keep picking right through to the first frosts in October/November!

All Gold - An outstanding autumn-fruiting variety, producing large, golden yellow fruits, with a taste that is even more exquisite than its red-fruited sisters! An excellent variety for fresh use and freezing and also for garnishes and wine-making.

Raspberry Plants - Malling Minerva

This superb raspberry will start to fruit in early June and carry on for up to six weeks, producing a bountiful crop of good-sized, deliciously flavoured, medium-firm raspberries. What's more, the succulent flesh pulls effortlessly from the central core, making picking easy. An excellent choice for gardens as plants are spineless, show good disease resistance and are easy to manage.

Twotimer Sugana

This versatile raspberry earns its name from the two crops it will give you in the same year! Like other autumn raspberries, it will crop on the new season's growth August-October, but unlike other raspberries, you should leave these stems to re-crop the following June, whilst training the new stems in for the following autumn's crop. The delicious fruit are larger than any other autumn fruiting raspberries. Plus, with a strong, upright habit they are ideal for growing in containers on the patio. And plants show good disease resistance too, making them easy to grow.Supplied in 12cm pots with full instructions.

Japanese Wineberry Plant

This vigorous, upright, self-fertile variety really is a pretty subject to grow - it's as well-suited to growing in the flower garden as the fruit garden. Throughout winter the bare stems look magnificent - they're bright red and covered with hundreds of spines that give them an almost furry appearance. The bright flowers are followed by clusters of orange berries that mature to a dark red colour. Harvest from August. Supplied in a 2 litre pot.

Long Cane Glen Ample

Our long cane raspberry plants are supplied with approximately 1.2m (4') of year old fruiting wood still attached, so you can plant them and be cropping from mid July in the same season! The first delicious berries will be ready to pick from mid July. 10 canes.

Raspberry Bare Root Plants - Summer Collection

The Summer Raspberry Collection contains 15 bare root plants (5 of each variety):

Glen Ample - A high yielding summer-fruiting raspberry much flavoured by professional growers. The large, round and conical-shaped berries have an excellent flavour and hold well on the spine-free canes. Harvest early-late July.

Valentina - A very unusual and extremely attractive apricot-pink-coloured raspberry, which also has the benefit of a fantastic flavour. It produces strong, upright canes with only a few spines, making harvesting easy. Crops June to July. With good resistance to disease and aphid, it's ideal for those who prefer to grow organically.

A chance seedling discovered amongst the nursery crop of Autumn Bliss. It has equal qualities and cropping time, however the main attribute of Allgold is its more exquisite flavour than its red fruited cousins.

Raspberry : Glen Ample

Exceptional high-yielding mid season variety, producing a heavy crop of large, deep red, succulent berries, with superb flavour. Five berries can weigh as much as 30gm (1oz). Spine-free canes, making picking easy. The tasty fruit holds well without spoiling and is excellent eaten fresh or from frozen.

Raspberry : Glen Fyne

The best-tasting Summer Raspberry! These attractive, bright-red, firm berries have a deliciously sweet and aromatic flavour which lasts all season and is certainly why Glen Fyne has consistently been voted 'Best-Flavoured Raspberry' by a professional tasting panel.

3 canes.

Raspberry : Glen Moy

We believe this to be the best early fruiting raspberry available. Producing an abundance of sweet juicy fruits from spine-free canes, making harvesting a pleasurable experience that starts in mid June and carries on until almost the end of July.

Raspberry : Joan J

First Year Fruiting. An outstanding primocane variety that produces a heavy crop of juicy and sweet tasting berries over a long cropping period. Each berry is 30% larger than Autumn Bliss with a brighter colour and a superior flavour.

3 canes.

Raspberry : Polka

One of the best raspberry introductions in recent years! This superb primocane variety from the latest Polish breeding will produce up to double the yield of Autumn Bliss (one of its parents). Once established, each plant can produce up to 2.5kg of large, deep-red berries with an exceptionally sweet taste which has meant Polka has been the winner of the autumn Kent Fruit Show for its flavour and fruit quality for the past three years.

Raspberry 'Autumn Treasure'

This outstanding variety is supplied as long, self supporting canes that will give you a crop in their first season! British bred in East Malling, this delicious autumn fruiting variety produces large, sweet fruits from August to October. The upright, spine-free canes make picking easy too! With good resistance to the raspberry root rot, Raspberry 'Autumn treasure' makes a superb choice for the organic gardener. The tall primocanes are perfect for smaller gardens too where they can be train onto an obelisk or 'wigwam' in a large container.

Raspberry : Tulameen

Grow this enormously versatile raspberry variety in a container! The long canes - 1-2.5m tall - look stunning trained up an obelisk or 'wigwam' in a large pot, making a decorative and productive addition to the patio or decking. This mid/late season selection bred in Canada, is now one of the world's most popular varieties in a whole range of climates.

Raspberry Tulameen has extremely high yields of very large fruit with a lovely sweet flavour are produced from the first year from these easy to grow long canes.

Raspberry Autumn Bliss Fruit Trellis Kit

An excellent primocane raspberry which should fruit in its first year, cropping from the end of July through to the first frosts in October. The fruit are a mid to dark red colour, and taste absolutely delicious! Performs best in a sheltered spot in the garden. 3 healthy plants & trellis.

Raspberry Plants - Long Cane Glen Ample

Autumn Amber

Unique colour, delicious taste. This brand new variety is the first true orange-coloured primocane raspberry. Glen Coe

All Gold

An outstanding autumn-fruiting raspberry, producing large, golden yellow fruits, with a taste that is even more exquisite than its red-fruited sisters! An excellent raspberry for fresh use and freezing and also for garnishes and wine-making.

Brice

A primocane type, Brice is notable for its regular, well-shaped fruits, which have a firm, meaty and cohesive texture. Their colour is a medium red which may darken when the fruits are over ripe, and the flavour is excellent. The fruit typically average 5g and hold their size well throughout the season. High yields of approximately 225g per plant per week have been reported. 5 canes.

Joan J

Produces an abundance of large, bright, juicy raspberries, with a truly delicious flavour. Glen Coe

A remarkable summer fruiting variety producing unusual velvety-purple raspberries with an intensely sweet flavour. Thornless stems make it easy to harvest the generous crops that are ideal for making jams, desserts or eating fresh from the plant. Raspberry 'Glen Coe' has a vigorous habit, and will quickly form a multi-stemmed clump of bushy raspberry canes that show good resistance to verticillium wilt disease. This fantastic raspberry hybrid is highly productive and easy to grow.
