I’m writing this after 1:00 am. I was getting ready for bed when the phone went just after 11pm. Our neighbour’s calling to ask if we’d seen the fire. Well the hillside that burnt back in 2018 is on fire again.

The next call was from Cara who lives a mile from us – towards the fire. It was looking very threatening from their house. Then Gary arrived to pick up an extra cat basket so they could evacuate with their cats to us if need be.
There’s talk of opening the community centre as some people nearer to the blaze are evacuating.
It now looks as if the fire brigade have the advance on the village stopped, although the main body of the fire is raging. I can see the flames dancing and clouds of smoke.
And so to bed.
