John, I am growing ‘Purple Ukraine’ tomatoes this year (I haven’t grown them for a few years, but they taste good raw or cooked). They are a plum shaped medium to large sized tomato. I’m also growing ‘Collective Farm Woman’ melon also originating in Ukraine. I have been potting on my tomatoes the last couple of days and planted out some early cauliflowers (‘All The Year Round’) under netting to keep the pigeons off! I am a few years younger than you, but I have started to get back pain sometimes, when I very rarely had back problems when I was younger – these ‘ailments’ seem to come with the territory as we get older unfortunately.
