Crewe and Nantwich Allotment and Gardeners Association
Attended the meeting tonight, held in the upstairs of a local pub. As the chairman couldn’t make it (I think this is the third meeting in a row he has missed) I was asked to take the chair and, as no-one else was willing, did so.
All went well until our site rep asked some questions which the secretary took exception to and things got a little heated. So, in the chair, I’m trying to keep the peace and discussion civilised.
The association seems to me to be totally out of touch with the needs of the average allotment holder and suffering from deep rooted apathy and inertia. Considering what a vital force it could be both for the benefit of allotment holders and for the community in which they are situated, a real shame.
There are 14 sites in the Crewe and Nantwich area, not including the 2 sites operated by parish councils. We managed to have representation of 5 of those sites or 36% at the meeting.
I’m sure the secretary’s heart is in the right place but it does seem time for a shake up. Moving the association into the 21st century would seem to be an uphill task.
I don’t think it appropriate to go into more detail in a public diary, but let’s say I hope we can transform the organisation into something that would really be useful to everyone.
