Gooseberry Bushes

Gooseberries are often thought to be easy to grow but they really need care to produce plants that will bear a good crop of easily pickable berries each year. They are not a popular as they used to be in the 19th century when gooseberry clubs and shows abounded. But they are making a comeback.

Cape Gooseberry Seeds

Exotic fruits for the greenhouse or sunny patio. Branching plants that can attain 180cm (6') in height, producing masses of fruits that are ready to harvest when calyces have changed from green to golden brown (if picked and left in husks they can be stored for months). The sweet fruits are delicious in jams, pies or eaten raw.

Famous for its fruit's delicious aroma and flavour (like a gooseberry, but with a hint of apricot!) this superb midseason gooseberry is very hardy and will produce a good crop of berries. Supplied as 2 year old plants.

Gooseberry : Hinnonmaki Yellow

Spreading bushes produce a heavy crop of medium sized greenishyellow fruits with a unique flavour. Unlike other gooseberries they have a delicious aromatic flavour with a hint of apricot.

Gooseberry : Invicta

One of the heaviest cropping varieties available producing almost twice as much fruit as other varieties. The flavoursome green fruits stay firm and retain their shape when cooked, making the best pies and preserves you've ever tasted.

Gooseberry : Xenia

These gorgeous, large, deep red-skinned gooseberries have an exceptionally sweet flavour when picked ripe towards the end of June. The highly attractive and abundant fruits are produced on strong, upright, mildew-resistant bushes with almost spine-free stems, making harvesting easier.

Lady Sun

Bred by Lubera, Lady Sun is virtually thornless on its fruit-bearing branches - so you won't get hurt when you pick the delicious gooseberries! It has a strong upright habit, and shows good resistance to American powdery mildew, producing good crops of sweet-tasting, juicy berries with a delightful aroma and thin skins.

Hinnonmaki Red

Bumper crops of tasty berries A first-class gooseberry which reliably produces heavy crops of very large, superbly flavoured, rich red fruits. And the vigorous plants are resistant to powdery mildew, making them easier to grow than traditional gooseberries. Fruits June to mid July. Supplied in a 3 litre pot.

Espera

The largest, juiciest berries ever! Introduced by Lubera in 2009 this variety produces some of the largest, juiciest gooseberries ever! It shows good disease reistance, producing healthy, very upright growth, and a heavy crop of very large, smooth-skinned, dark red fruit. The aroma and flavour is exquisite. Suited to most soils. Crops from mid June.

Lady Late

This first-class variety ripens from the end of July to early August, extending the gooseberry season. It produces very heavy crops of fruit that are very large, dark red and hairless, with a good, balanced flavour. Plants are extremely upright, with healthy, almost spineless growth, and are resistant to American gooseberry mildew. A great partner to Lady Sun. Supplied in a 1.3 litre pot.
