Allotment Rents, Greenhouse Glass and Brassicas

Allotment Rent

I paid the rent today for another year. ?18.00 per plot per year but I reckon the plots are smaller than many in other parts of the country. Don’t know if I would have coped with Kooringa”s quarter of an acre! That?s not a plot, it?s a smallholding.

The Greenhouse

Arrived on site to find the change in wind direction has caused my greenhouse windows to fall over and broken one. I really must get this thing up while I still have anything left. They’ve sat there OK through the winter but the change in direction of the wind has just caught them.

Spent some time with Larry and we worked out where many of the bits go and so I can now get the base in and make a start.

Tony H is dumping his greenhouse, which got blown around and twisted  before he managed to finish glazing it so I left him a note asking if I could have it for spares. I seem to be missing a plate that holds the corner to the roof truss. Must tidy that shed out!

Planting Brassicas

The cabbages and cauliflowers are safe under the netting that frustrates the pigeons? efforts to eat them.  Started planting with Greyhound at an 18? spacing and the red cabbages at 24? spacing as they seem more vigorous.  I stood up after planting one and the robin swooped down to grab a worm at my feet. Didn’t seem bothered by me at all, just took his time then flew up to sit on the fence.

It was quite cold in the wind so didn?t stay down too long, just long enough to clear the cobwebs.

I took a few photographs while I was down there as well.
