Ph Testing the Soil Before Adding Lime

Ph Testing

Tried out my new PH tester and was quite surprised to find that it’s higher than I expected in a lot of places. Down at the bottom of plot 5 it was over 6 but I’m still going to lime there as brassicas love lime. On plot 29 the ph seemed to be between 6 and 7 except on the patch where I may plant some potatoes, which is fine as potatoes are the one crop that likes it a bit acid, around 5.5

Next time I may well use the chemical test to confirm the electronic tester is functioning correctly.

Spreading Turkey Litter

The pile on plot 5 was spread evenly over the leafmould on what will be the potato bed. This should lighten the soil somewhat before the potatoes go in. I started digging it over and in.

I was only down for just over an hour, but made a good start.
