Harvesting Parsnips, Carrots and Leeks

Parsnips, Carrots and Leeks

Down to the plot early afternoon where the first job was to pull a few parsnips and leeks for the stew tonight and to clear the carrots.

I can’t say they’re wonderful. The carrots on plot 5 obviously don’t like the heavy soil as much as the carrots on the deep bed on plot 29 appreciate the lighter soil. Both have suffered from not being thinned enough and plot 5’s have been nibbled by the slugs a lot.

Still, a carrier bag and a half was had.

Moving leaves.

Next job was to continue piling leaves in the cage on plot 29. The ground is so wet, I don’t want to churn it up on plot 5. One cage at a time! By the time it got too dark to continue I think the cage was about half full.

They’re promising some reasonable weather so hopefully I can get caught up a bit over the next couple of weeks.

Recipes

Granny Dumplin has sent in some amazing recipes but these latest ones for the humble swede really sound wonderful. Do take a look.
